I have done everything from traditional church weddings to ceremonies in very non-traditional settings like forests, beaches, backyards, etc. I can work with the bride and groom to tailor the music to their ceremony. Most ceremonies include the following (depending on the preferences of the bridal party):
Before the ceremony: I play light classical music while the guests are arriving and being seated. Usually the choice of the music selections is left up to me with some guidance form the wedding couple as to their likes and dislikes in terms of general style.
During the ceremony: I have a selection of marches arranged for solo guitar that I play for the bridal party to walk down the aisle. I can play music at a special moment in the ceremony (if desired). The bride and groom pick these. If there is a song that you want that I don’t play, I can learn it with enough lead time.
After the ceremony: I play a recessional march for the bridal party to walk back down the aisle. I then play as the guests are leaving the wedding site. The wedding party chooses the recessional and then gives me guidance as to style of music to be played as guests are leaving the site
Reception: I might then move to the reception and play a wider variety of repertoire while guests are eating and enjoying themselves. In this instance the bride and groom give me guidance as to styles of music that they prefer and I play songs from the repertoire in accordance with their wishes.
I have played at hundreds of weddings throughout the Bay area during the past 20 years. One of the advantages of having an experienced professional playing at your wedding is that you can concentrate on other things and be comfortable knowing that the music will be done well. I am familiar with all the things that can happen at a wedding and I play "heads up" before and during the ceremony to make sure that the music is in sync with the action.
